Sleep apnea can be a dangerous disorder. It can cause loss of sleep, which can make a person feel old, disoriented, and overtired throughout the day. People with sleep apnea will notice that they have wrinkles in their faces and look old beyond their age. This is due to the lack of relaxing sleep, and can have a serious impact on the quality of the lives of those with sleep apnea, and their families as well.
Therapists have found a number of ways to treat sleep apnea, however. One of these ways is through the use of a CPAP machine (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). This allows the breather to keep breathing inward, regardless of the fact that breathing usually stops at certain times.
Dr. Avi Weisfogel can treat sleep apnea through dentistry. He uses a different approach to helping those with sleep apnea. He founded the Dental Sleep Master’s Program, the main focus of which is to orally applied therapy, rather than a CPAP machine.
The program is tailored to the individual patient’s needs. For instance, if a patient complained of tonsil blockage, or tongue flaps, Dr. Weisfogel prescribes treatment for just that, so that the patient is not over diagnosed or over treated in any way.
Dr. Avi Weisfogel spent a number of years at Rutgers University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Psychology. And then, he earned his Doctorate in Dental Surgery at New York University.
In 2012, he founded an organization wherein dentists and others interested in sleep apnea could come together and discuss their findings. This led to his Dental Sleep Master’s Program. It was discovered that most problems can be treated with an alternative, easier device, such as oral applications and fixtures.
Dr. Weisfogel has devoted most of his time and effort in easing those problems, and he is well worthy of accolades from his fellow researchers.
